Judge Not

Whenever the topic of sin is mentioned, the accusatory statement, even from Christians who should know better, is whipped out of the mouth with the speed of Wyatt Earp’s six-shooter, “JUDGE NOT”!  And whenever a scripture is mentioned in a discussion, the audible gasps of horror are usually followed by the accusation of being a “legalist.” Must be the new buzz word for the contemporary crowd who really prefers their own feel-good gospel rather than the gospel of the Good Book.

Seems like everyone has their own God these days. “My God would NEVER allow anyone to go HELL!” “My God doesn’t JUDGE!” “My God doesn’t HATE!” Sweetheart, I don’t think your God is MY God. Your God certainly isn’t the one of the Bible.

First of all, if you do not repent of your sins and determine your life to follow the teachings of Christ and not some charismatic charlatan hawking his latest book and spewing tidbits of vapid wisdom from the stage of his megachurch, the Bible says you will go to hell. That’s right, brothers and sisters. If you do not REPENT, TURN from your sins and FOLLOW JESUS CHRIST, the Bible says you will burn in hell for eternity. I didn’t make it up, I didn’t write it, it is written in the Word of God, the Holy Bible.

In the second chapter of Acts, the Holy Spirit fell on 120 people who were gathered in the Upper Room. They rushed out of the house in boldness preaching the gospel to everyone who would listen. When people heard the gospel message that would save their souls from hell, they were “pricked in their hearts” and cried out, “Men and brethren, what should we do?” Peter then stood up and answered them with “Repent and be baptized, every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of your sins…” (Acts 2:37-38)

When Nicodemus asked Jesus about eternal life, Jesus answered, “No one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again…No one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of the water and the spirit.” (John 3:3-5)

In Revelation 21:8 we are told, “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone; which is the second death.”

Honey, don’t be mad at me – I didn’t write it, I’m just quoting it.

Second of all, God WILL judge you. He will judge you just as He judged Belshazzar when His mighty hand wrote upon the wall of the sinful king’s palace, “Mene mene tekel upharsin” part of which means “You have been weighed in the balance and found wanting.” And God has commanded all who follow Him to preach the gospel of salvation, “And He commanded us to preach to the people, and to testify that it is He which was ordained of God to be the Judge of the quick and the dead.” (Acts 10:43).

And stop throwing that “Judge Not!” scripture around and learn another one. How about this one: “Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.” (John 7:24)  We are responsible to judge sin with righteous judgment to help our brothers and sisters find their way to Christ and to stay on the narrow pathway.

And last of all, regarding your comment of “My God does NOT HATE!” Hmmm…I find that Interesting. I don’t think I’ve ever met your God, because this is what the Bible tells me about my God: “These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto Him: a proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, an heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, a false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.” Proverbs 6:16-19

I know I’m being more than a bit snarky and you will just have to overlook Mimi Cranky-Pants today, but PLEASE, Christians, learn the truth of scripture! Lives depend on it.

Be blessed today, my friends, and if I don’t meet you again here I hope to meet you over there!
